Before Your Session

Does getting a tattoo hurt?

Pain levels vary depending on the placement, size, and your personal tolerance. Some areas (like ribs or feet) tend to be more sensitive, while others (like forearms) can be more manageable. I will always do my best to keep you as comfortable as possible during the session.

How should I prepare for my tattoo appointment?

NON-NEGOTIABLES, as outlined in your waiver:

  1. Get a good night's sleep, eat a full meal, and stay hydrated.

  2. No alcohol or blood thinners 24hrs prior.

  3. Wear comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the tattoo area, AND ones you don't mind getting ink on.

What do we discuss during our consultation?

Together, we'll discuss your vision and review any reference images or inspirations you have. We'll discuss placement, size, and how it fits with your body's flow. (A well-placed tattoo complements the body's natural lines and contours.) We'll also discuss style and colour; there are many different styles of tattoos, textures, and shading approaches. You won't need to have all of this determined - it's my job to ask the right questions to ensure I have a clear understanding of your needs and wants to design a piece you'll be excited about.

If we're working on a coverup, I'll outline the process we'll take to get there. I look forward to surprising you with what's possible!

Can I bring my own design?

You're welcome and encouraged to bring your own reference images and ideas. I'll work with you to refine it and ensure it translates well as a tattoo (ex. layout, area, colours, coverup logistics to improve flow, detail, or longevity).

NOTE: I do not copy other designs, but having inspiration photos helps paint a clearer idea of what to design for you.

What if I want changes after I see the design?

After our consult, I will create a rough sketch (if needed) to map out your initial design for approval (approx. a few days), or start working on your full design depending on size and complexity.

On the day, I'll show you the final design, which you'll again be able to make modifications on before we start. I welcome your feedback and involvement to ensure I design a piece you'll love. â€‹

There is time factored into your appointment to make minor adjustments. If there are too many modifications to make at the time of your session, we may need to revisit initial concepts. In rare cases, this may impact your deposit, however, you will be informed of this in advance.

During

During your Session

Can I bring a friend?

Yes! If you need moral support, bring a friend. That said, if space is limited, they may not be able to sit next to you the whole time, and too much distraction can make the process harder. Please let me know in advance if you plan to bring someone.

What should I bring to my session?

I recommend bringing water, snacks, and something to do while you're being tattooed (ex. an iPad for digital puzzles, movies, etc.), headphones to listen to music or podcasts, or a book.

Can I take breaks during my session?

Of course! If you need a snack, bathroom, or smoke break, please take the time you need. ESPECIALLY if you feel dizzy or lightheaded. I always keep candy on hand to keep your blood sugar up.

Do you use any numbing creams or sprays?

Unfortunately, I do not. I find many creams or sprays can impact the quality of how your tattoo turns out. I strive to be gentle and check in regularly to ensure your comfort as best I can.

After Your Session & Healing

How long do I leave my SecondSkin™ bandage on?

5-7 days, as long as the bandage is not compromised (i.e. water, debris, sweat get underneath or it starts to peel up to expose the fresh tattoo).

Can I shower or take baths with my SecondSkin™ bandage?

It's important to not submerge your tattoo until it is fully healed, so baths, pools, saunas, and steam rooms are off limits for at least 2 weeks. Showers are fine. Keep the area around your bandage clean, to ensure it does not become compromised (see above).

To learn more about when and how to remove your SecondSkin™ bandage, please check my Aftercare 101 Page.

How long does it take tattoos to heal?

On average, it takes the skin 28 days to regenerate, but the worst of the healing process on the surface is the first 10 days.

How can I prolong the life of my tattoo?

All tattoos age, but proper care helps them stay vibrant. Avoid excess sun exposure, use SPF once healed, and keep your skin moisturized. Do not pick, scratch, or remove scabs while your tattoo heals.

I need a touch up! What do I do?

It happens! I want to ensure your new ink is vibrant and complete. Please refer to the policies page for more information about touch ups, and email or DM me so we can get you back into the studio.
